Frankincense, Myrrh & Sandalwood

frankincence myrrh

Frankincense and Myrrh gums have been fathered from wild trees in North East Africa and the Middle east since bilical times. Until recently the gum was exported for distillation in Europe. Our oils now come from the first distillery in in Somaliland, a peaceful autonomous stage in the north of Somalia.

This operation provides livelihood for many in this remote and impoverished region, with fifty people working in the distillery alone. The gum is harvested by experienced gatherers who ensure that the trees are not damaged in the process by over harvesting. These tribes have been looking after these wild trees for generations so that they can continue to thrive and produce the valuable resin. From 2021 our oil will have both Organic and Fairwild certification.

Sandalwood

As the plantation in Kununurra, Australia matures there is a higher-grade oil now available which we now offer. With an RSP of 9.95 euro for the 15% dilution, this costs a bit more, but the extra power and warmth makes it well worth it. This is the only substantial Sandalwood cultivation in the world, using the santalum album species. We have supplied oil from here since it became available in 2016 as an environmentally sustainable alternative to wild harvested material from India and elsewhere.
