At Living Libations, we prefer the rare, first part of the distillation, known as “extra,” or “superior.”
This first distillation is the crème of the crop as it emanates the most ethereal aroma, as it is highest in the aromatic and lovely ester compounds.
The subsequent distillations are classified 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, which are the more commonly available distillations. Ylang is an enveloping floral essence that transports one to the sensual air of a tropical garden.

Tranquils tension and body-mind harmonizer. Magnificent moisturizer and skin oil balancer. Helps hair shine divine. Adds sweet sensuality and playfulness to love potions and pleasurable perfumes. A delight to diffuse, especially with citrus. A benevolent bathing beauty.
Our superior distillation of Ylang is super for skincare as it is opulent in esters and ready to address skin that feels duress and bring it back into the beauty. It is also a sublimely sweet love potion and relaxing tonic that may quell feelings of worry and stress. The heady, sweet aroma is long-lasting and inspiring, conjuring wafts of whimsical, sensual splendor. Ylang tempers the senses, serving you to see what is true for you in the moment.
“The fragrance of the flower of all flowers is soft, sweet, and erotic, conjuring up images of orchids and almonds. The fragrance stimulates the part of the brain that releases endorphins. It is therefore helpful in reducing pain, as well as creating euphoric and erotic moods.”
~ Suzanne Fischer-Rizzi, Complete Aromatherapy Handbook
“Ylang ylang is the tenderhearted one whose hanging petals dance in the wind, as if through flexibility it protects its tender heart from destruction.”
~ Valerie Ann Worwood, Aromatherapy for the Soul
“Ylang ylang is used by the perfumer for its own intrinsic loveliness of fragrance, but it is also used as a modifier, and somewhat for its fixative value.”
~ Jill Jesse, Perfume Album
“Ylang Ylang oil benefits any type of skin but is especially effective in treating oily skin because it balances oil production and reduces excessive oiliness. By fighting bacterial infection, it helps control acne and blemishes.”
~ Roberta Wilson, Aromatherapy: Essential Oils for Vibrant Health and Beauty
