CurlyEllie Intense: Our Ingredients
INGREDIENTS
Abyssinian Seed Oil
The Crambe abyssinica plant originated in eastern Africa in the Ethiopian Highlands known as Abyssinia, which is where it gets its name from. In more recent years it is also cultivated in the Mediterranean region in southern Europe, It has a short growing cycle of 90 to 100 days and doesn’t require as much water to grow as other plants, making it an environmentally friendly crop to produce.
Why we love Abyssinian Seed Oil and use it all CurlyEllie Intense products:
- It is a natural alternative to synthetic mineral oils often used in manufactured hair care products.
- The seed is coveted for its high levels of cuticle-smoothing erucic acid and is rich in antioxidants and vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, proteins and minerals which all promote healthier hair.
- Plus, Abyssinian oil contains linoleic and linolenic acids, which are important omega fatty acids, responsible for hair growth, maintaining nutrients, cell-communication, skin conditioning, and anti-inflammatory properties.
- It’s chemically closest to the natural oils produced by our skin, which means it provides the ultimate natural hydration of any oil on the market.
- The fatty acid profile keeps hair hydrated, mending split ends and maintaining and boosting precious shine-inducing moisture-locking cuticles.
-
if you suffer from a flaky and unhealthy scalp, you will love Abyssinian oil. The high level of erucic acid helps to naturally eradicate any fungus growth on the scalp, which causes dandruff and dry, itchy flakes.

ALOE VERA
Aloe Vera Juice is extracted from the leaves of the Aloe Vera plant, a botanical that the ancient Egyptians often referred to as “The Plant of Immortality” or “The Plant of Eternity.”
It was believed that the “blood” of the Aloe Vera plant would not only address symptoms of fevers, soothe burns and wounds, and enhance daily cosmetic applications, but that it would also magnify beauty and promote eternal life.
Known for having anti-bacterial properties, the contents of the Aloe Vera plant were used in embalming rituals, as it was believed that the deceased could achieve everlasting life, both physically and spiritually, if their bodies could be prevented from decomposing.
Why we love it in our Indulgent Conditioner:
The benefits of Aloe Vera Juice are almost too many to list in one page. Where do I even begin ?
- It has been used to help with allergies, abrasions, sores, blisters, bruises, burns, dry scalp, hair loss, rashes, inflammation, fungal infections, insect bites and stings, moles, nausea, ulcers, wounds, and so many more.
- Aloe Vera Juice can hydrate, exfoliate, nourish, clarify, and revitalise your hair.
- Its antioxidant activity and richness in vitamins help it to repair hair damage and to protect before and after the harmful effects of UV radiation.
- Its smoothing quality helps to with psoriasis and dermatitis.
- It moisturises without leaving hair with a greasy residue, which makes it beneficial for oily hair.
BABASSU SEED OIL
In South American countries like Brazil, Babassu’s plant’s oil is commonly used in cooking and as a medicine.
Locals use it to heal minor wounds, such as cuts and scratches.
The great part of it is that Babassu oil is also turned into biofuel that can be used as an alternative to diesel fuel.
We use Babassu oil in our Indulgent Hair Conditioner and Styling Conditioner.
Why your hair will love Babassu Oil:
-
Babassu oil boasts a high moisture-retaining capacity, meaning it doesn’t evaporate or break down easily. It helps keep moisture from escaping once it’s on the skin, scalp, and hair shaft. Keeps strands and scalp moisturised for longer periods of time, and makes it less prone to breakage.
-
Babassu oil and other parts of the plant are used for various medicinal purposes in South America, such as to treat skin conditions, wounds, inflammation, amongst others.
-
The oil is rich in antioxidants, which are compounds that can help reduce cellular damage caused by harmful free radicals.
-
Antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties.
-
Babassu oil is a plant-based oil rich in saturated fats, making it solid at room temperature.
-
Babassu oil causes a refreshing, cooling sensation when it’s applied to the skin, as it melts at room temperature.
-
Lastly, it can add volume to dry, flat hair without weighing it down.
BORAGE SEED OIL
Borage Seed Oil is pretty amazing and this is one of the reasons I chose to include it in our Indulgent conditioner.
You may know it as Starflower oil and is the ultimate oil for an intense treatment for your hair, especially if you have sensitive, inflamed or irritated scalp.
Borage Seed Oil is a common herbal treatment in traditional medicine practices for hundreds of years, borage oil has numerous uses — ranging from treating skin flare-ups to lowering pain.
Borage oil is an extract made from the seeds of the Borago officinalis plant, an annual herb that is mainly planted and cultivated for medicinal and culinary uses.
It is used for the treatment of various diseases such as multiple sclerosis, diabetes, heart diseases, arthritis and eczema.
Why I Love Borage Seed Oil and use it in our Indulgent conditioner
- The most beneficial aspect of using borage oil either topically on the skin or internally is for its extremely strong anti-inflammatory effects.
- Borage oil is becoming increasingly popular as a natural anti inflammation remedy because it has one of the highest amounts of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid also known as vitamin F which is generally used as dietary or food supplement.
- GLA is one type of omega-6 “essential” fatty acid that the body cannot make on its own, so it is extremely useful to include it in our diet and hair-care products

CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRYGLYCERIDE (COCONUT OIL)
Caprylic/Capric Triglycerides was developed nearly 60 years ago and is a specific type of coconut oil fatty acids. It offers a dry, silky oil feel. As an emollient, it both quickly and efficiently penetrates the surface to condition the skin/hair, and provides a lightweight and non-greasy barrier to the hair to retain moisture.
It is great and the perfect ingredient to add to our Nourishing Conditioner to give your hair the indulgent treatment.
Why we love Coconut oil in our Indulgent Conditioner

CASTOR SEED OIL
Camelina, also known as Gold of Pleasure, has been grown in England for thousands of years for its tasty seeds and oil.
Castor oil, also known as ricinus communis, is a nutrient-rich vegetable oil that comes from castor beans. In ancient Egypt, castor oil was burned as fuel in lamps, used as a natural remedy to treat ailments like eye irritation. Castor oil is commonly used as an additive in foods, medications and skin care.
Why I love Castor Oil and use it in our Hair oil:
- Castor oil creates a moist environment that promotes healing and stimulates tissue growth
- Increases the glossiness and shine to your hair, increases hair shaft flexibility by coating the hair shaft, and providing antimicrobial properties.
- The intensive moisturising properties of Castor Oil is great for dry or damaged hair. It acts as a lubricant, coating and conditioning strands to improve smoothness and shine.
- It also reduces dryness and cornification, the build up of dead skin cells.
- Castor oil may benefit those who experience dandruff or psoriasis, a common scalp condition characterized by dry, flaky skin on the head.
-
It works as an emollient, smoothing flaky skin and making it feel softer. It can also provide a barrier on the hair and protect against moisture loss.
GRAPESEED OIL
Camelina, also known as Gold of Pleasure, has been grown in England for thousands of years for its tasty seeds and oil.
Grapeseed Oil is pressed from the seeds of Vitis vinifera grapes, an abundant by-product of winemaking. This is a fact that makes me very pleased.
The oil is then refined to produce a wonderfully light and highly moisturising oil that has so many benefits for your hair.
We use grapeseed oil in our hair oil.
Why your hair will love Grapeseed oil
- Rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. It contains more linoleic acid than most other carrier oils. Due to the high linoleic acid value of grape seed oil it is highly nourishing and light, making it ideal for use to moisturise your hair without weighing it down.
- Absorbs very quickly which is why it is amazing for dry hair.
- Extremely soothing and an excellent emollient so is ideal for hair that do not absorb water and oils easily.
- Great for damaged and stressed hair because it possesses regenerative and restructuring qualities, which allows a better control of rehydration of the hair.
OLEA EUROPAEA OUL UNSAPONIFIABLES
Olive oil unsaponifiables, sometimes known as Planell Oil are a portion of the oil derived from the whole, ripe fruit of the olive (olea europaea) tree. These evergreen trees grow up to 15 meters tall and are widely cultivated in the Mediterranean Basin.
Harvested olives are ground and then cold pressed to extract the oil.
Why I love Olive Oil in our Hair Oil:
Olive oil unsaponifiables are typically rich in squalane, a compound in the skin that requires replenishment. They are useful as a moisturiser for your hair because it is easily absorbed while helping moisturise and soften your scalp and hair.
Planell Oil is a naturally derived plant oil containing high levels of squalane and squalene. It is an ideal replacement for animal squalane for the replenishment of lipids lost from the skin.
OLIVE FRUIT OIL
Olive oil was known as “liquid gold” by the Greek poet Homer. Olive Oil was so respected that the cutting down of Olive trees was punishable by death, according to the 6th and 7th century B.C. Greek Laws of Solon. The Greeks began using Olive Oil in their religious practices as well as for culinary, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and lighting purposes. We use it in our radiance and brightening hair oil.
Why your hair will love Olive Fruit Oil:
- Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil is the edible, fixed oil obtained from the ripe fruit of Olea europaea.
- It is commonly used as a cooking oil and is regarded as a healthy dietary oil because of its high content of monounsaturated fat.
- Olive Oil is rich with oleic and linoleic fatty acids and is very nutritious for your hair and scalp, helping hair stay healthy.

QUINOA
Considered the Mother Grain of the ancient Incas, quinoa is best known as a staple ingredient, particularly for its edible seeds. Mainly cultivated in the South American Andes Mountains, quinoa has been an important source of nutrition in the region for 6,000 years and revered as sacred.
Over time, quinoa has been gaining more recognition as a natural and sustainable ingredient. 2013 was declared by the United Nations as “The International Year of the Quinoa.”
Why I love Quinoa and use it in our Conditioners:
- Quinoa is considered to be a complete protein, containing all eight essential amino acids. Our quinoa confers film forming and moisture retention benefits typical of proteins, and has also been proven to provide substantivity.
