We’re thrilled to introduce our new, heavenly-scented hair treatment oil! Christo and I have been lovingly testing it throughout the spring, and it’s safe to say we’re both enamored. During my journey through perimenopause, I felt a strong desire for change but wanted it to minimally impact my cherished lifestyle. This led me to experiment with various haircuts—some more successful than others. As I found inner calm this year, my desire to grow my hair returned, inspiring the creation of this miraculous hair oil to hasten my return to long, untamed tresses.

This oil is crafted from sun-soaked botanical extracts harvested from our own gardens—Amaranth, Banana Flower, Nettle, Rosemary, and False Daisy—and Blue Lotus from Byron Bay. These ingredients work together to enhance shine and gloss, improve hair elasticity, strengthen and smooth the hair shaft, stimulate growth, prevent split ends, preserve natural color, and enhance volume and density while conditioning the scalp.

Although I typically avoid nut oils in my skincare due to their protein content, they prove beneficial in hair care. Walnut oil, rich in Biotin, fortifies and adds gloss. Argan oil offers protection from heat and enhances shine and silkiness. Green Coffee seed oil coats the hair for added shine and softness, and promotes a healthy scalp by boosting circulation.

My latest favorite ingredient is sustainably sourced Amazonian Caiaué Oil, the only botanical oil with natural compounds akin to human hair’s Keratin. It’s incredibly effective for hair loss treatment, eliminates frizz, shields from environmental stresses and heat, and mends chemically treated or damaged hair.

On an energetic level, essential oils also play a vital role: Blue Lotus enhances spiritual awareness and inner vision, Cedarwood alleviates mental fatigue and offers protection, while Jasmine elevates the spirit, restores emotional balance, and boosts positivity and well-being.

How to use

Before using a hair dryer, apply one or two drops to damp hair after washing and towel drying. From behind your hair, massage into the scalp and ends. Spread the oil evenly into your hair by running your hands through it. I only use this oil once a week because I only wash my hair once.

This is beautiful, ethereal Lotus. Perfumed air – Mysterious, oriental and somewhat addictive. Crowned by floral accords of Jasmine, here to connect the water of Lotus to the earthy perfumed wood of Cedar.

What is sun-infusion?

"May the sun bring you new energy by day, May the moon softly restore you by night. May the rain wash away your worries, May the breeze blow new strength to your being. May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life."

Using an age-old technique called sun-infusion, we slowly release the therapeutic components of our flowers, fruits, skins, leaves, bark, seeds, resins, even wood and minerals into biodynamic olive oil over a period of 4-6 months, sometimes up to a year for a very valuable vintage.

As a result of their more solid structure than that of leaves or blossoms, barks, roots, and skins take longer to extract. Additionally, resins must be removed from their water-soluble gums before they can dissolve into my oil.

This slow natural process produces zero carbon footprint and preserves the heat sensitive medicinal properties of our botanicals and cold pressed oils and synergises their healing powers in ways that stove-top produced extracts just can’t, in my humble experience.

It also allows me to use unrefined, extra virgin and cold pressed olive oil, whereas commercially, the less nutritious, refined and heat stable sunflower seed oil is used.

What are biodynamic principles?

Rudolf Steiner, an early 20th-century German philosopher, humanist, and wholistic activist, pioneered biodynamic principles, homeopathy, and founded the eponymous Steiner schools, with which Johanna's family has been actively involved for four generations, from the schools' founding days to the establishment of schools all over the world. Rudolf Steiner's teachings on anthroposophy gave rise to biodynamic.

In essence, we see biodynamic as the evolution of organic farming.

Biodynamic concepts, which literally translate as "life force," aim to bring harmony to nature and perceive the sun, moon, and stars, as well as the earth, plants, animals, and people, as components of a whole.

Using cosmic forces, rhythmic stirring to activate natural fertilizers, the lunar cycle, and seasonal observation, biodynamic principles seek to establish a production cycle that is completely sustainable.

It's just a very organic, genuine way of being; it's not rocket science.

Why does Lepaar blend in sync with the moon cycle?
