A separate species from the Lime and Lemon, Limetta was born from the mating of Citron and a Bitter Orange somewhere in southern Iran, long ago. The Limetta tree is tall and thorny with long, elliptic leaves and delicately scented white flowers. The spherical, edible fruit is about the size of an Orange with an aromatic greenish-yellow peel. Limetta seeds were transported by travelling tradesman to Europe where citrus trees thrive along the Mediterranean coastline.
Our Limetta Essential Oil hails from Italy where the long, hot summer season allows the citrus fruit to fully ripen. The fruit is harvested for its sweet-sour green juice and the peels are steam distilled to produce small volumes of nose and tongue tingling margarita-lime essence. Registered as GRAS by the FDA, Limetta Essential Oil is coveted for confections and culinary creations of all kinds, from sweet treats to savory selections to cooling drinks. One drop in your drink refreshes the palette and a drop in fresh aloe or your favorite serum refreshes your face.
