The Essence of Ethical Essential Oils: From Sourcing to Sustainability
The essence of Ethical Essential Oils: Eco projects + Distillers
Inspiring stories, positive footprints
When we ponder the real significance and societal effects of “labor,” we take great pride in revealing that our essential oils are sourced from diverse ecological habitats around the globe. These locations are more than just places; they are stories—narratives of hardworking communities, organic farming, sustainable agroforestry, economic upliftment, grassroots healthcare, and the safeguarding of age-old botanical cultures.
We understand how crucial it is for you that each product has a positive impact—leaving beneficial footprints on its journey to you. We resonate deeply with that sentiment. Here are just a few uplifting stories of our global essential oil distillers and sources:
CYPRESS | BHUTAN
We have the privilege of collaborating with an ethical distiller named Karma in Bhutan. He ensures fair wages for farmers in the Himalayan ranges and valleys. Apart from providing equitable compensation to the harvesters, Karma also contributes to a community forest fund, designed to offer microloans to locals.
EUCALYPTUS + ROSE GERANIUM | SOUTH AFRICA
Currently, the southern region of Africa houses approximately 33 distilleries, each extracting oils from unique, indigenous aromatic plants. We work closely with one of the main organizers and distributors in this region to offer top-grade Eucalyptus essential oil. This endeavor is intricately linked to poverty alleviation initiatives aimed at both environmental stewardship and sustainable economic growth.
FRANKINCENSE, LAVENDER KASHMIR, PATCHOULI + TULSI (HOLY BASIL) | INDIA
Our collection of Indian essential oils is pure, ethically harvested, and has been instrumental in uplifting rural agricultural regions. Not only do these oils protect endangered species and unique ecosystems, but they also help preserve traditional farming methods that are losing ground to modernization.
PALO SANTO | ECUADOR
Our Palo Santo essential oil not only supports the preservation of native lands but also honors the sacred and traditional harvesting practices of the indigenous communities. The oil is ethically sourced from naturally fallen trees that have matured on the ground for a period of three to five years.
RAVENSARA + YLANG-YLANG | MADAGASCAR
Our distiller in Madagascar has taken sustainability to a new level by planting over 50,000 trees annually and establishing distilleries right in the harvesting fields to cut down on carbon emissions.
ROSEWOOD | PERU
Our associates in Peru are on a commendable mission to protect and rejuvenate some of the Amazon’s most endangered tree species. They have optimized the distillation process to be advantageous rather than detrimental to these invaluable plants.
These narratives do more than warm the heart; they set a standard for how the essential oil industry should operate—ethically, sustainably, and holistically. We hope you’ve enjoyed this little tour of our global network, and we look forward to sharing even more impactful stories in the future.
