Founded by Jennifer Baum-Minkus and named after her mother, Brigitte, gitti was born from a bold decision. After leaving a leadership role in the corporate world, Jennifer dove into researching nail polish and discovered how many conventional formulas contain ingredients that raise concerns for both our health and the environment. What followed was years of development, much of it from her own apartment, before gitti launched in 2019. Today, the brand offers two innovative formulas: a plant-based polish with up to 82% ingredients of natural origin for long-lasting wear of up to 10 days, and an odorless water-based polish made from up to 55% water. Both are vegan and 19-free, reflecting gitti's commitment to positive change for people and the planet.

Our Ingredients

At gitti, every bottle starts with a simple principle: leave out what doesn't belong and replace it with something better. Conventional nail polish often relies on petrochemical solvents and ingredients that raise questions for both our health and the environment. gitti takes a different path, combining the power of nature with modern science to create formulas that perform beautifully without the compromise.

The heart of gitti's plant-based polish lies in an innovative biotechnological process. Instead of petrochemical solvents, the formula uses plant-based solvents made by fermenting sugar cane, cassava and corn, resulting in a polish made from up to 82% ingredients of natural origin. Each formula is enriched with antioxidant vitamin E and sunflower seed oil, so your nails get a little extra care with every coat. For those who prefer an even gentler option, the water-based formula is made from up to 55% water and is completely odorless. All gitti colors are vegan, fairly produced in the EU and free from a long list of questionable ingredients found in many conventional polishes. Even the packaging is thoughtfully made, with recyclable glass bottles containing 20% post-industrial recycled glass.

What makes gitti products special?

Gitti products are developed to be better for you and for the planet, without ever compromising on quality or results.

Every formula is vegan, PETA approved, and made with carefully selected ingredients of natural origin. But our standards go further than what the law requires. In addition to the roughly 1,700 substances already banned or restricted under EU Cosmetics Regulation, we maintain our own internal No List of ingredients we consider harmful to people or the environment. If it doesn't meet our standards, it doesn't make it into a product.

At the same time, clean formulas and high performance are not a trade-off for us. We use innovative active ingredients backed by independently verified results, so you can feel confident that what you're using actually works.

Our commitment to doing better extends to packaging too. We use glass, aluminium, and recycled materials wherever possible, and ship plastic-free as standard.

Which ingredients does gitti use, and which do they avoid?

Gitti's formulas are built primarily on ingredients of natural origin. Where synthetic raw materials are used, they are carefully selected and only included when they genuinely contribute to the performance or stability of a formula, never as filler.

On top of that, Gitti excludes specific ingredients in each category that are considered controversial for their safety, irritation potential, or environmental impact. No animal-derived ingredients are used across the range, and petrochemical-based solvents have no place in any Gitti formula either.

Are gitti products suitable for children?

Gitti products are tested in line with applicable EU cosmetics standards and are generally safe for use. However, they have not been specifically developed or tested for children, so we recommend them primarily for adults.

The one exception is our children's nail polishes, which have been specially formulated for kids aged 3 and above. Even so, we recommend these are always used under adult supervision to avoid improper use or accidental ingestion.

Are gitti products suitable for people with allergies or medical conditions?

All Gitti products meet the high safety standards set out by EU Cosmetics Regulation and are dermatologically tested. That said, individual intolerances or allergic reactions can never be completely ruled out with any cosmetic product.

If you have known allergies or an existing medical condition, we recommend checking the ingredient list for each product carefully and consulting your doctor before use.

Are gitti products natural? Are they certified natural cosmetics?

Gitti products are made primarily from ingredients of natural origin, complemented by carefully selected synthetic ingredients where they are needed to meet our standards for performance and durability. The proportion of natural origin ingredients is calculated in line with ISO standard 16128.

We are not a certified natural cosmetics brand, and that is a deliberate choice. In our view, some of the requirements that come with natural cosmetics certification can limit the development of innovative, high-performing formulas. We would rather set our own standards and be transparent about them than let a label define what we can and can't create.

Are all gitti products vegan and cruelty-free? Is gitti certified by PETA?

Yes. All Gitti products are 100% vegan, contain no animal-derived ingredients, and are certified by PETA. We do not conduct animal testing anywhere in the world, and we work exclusively with suppliers who share the same ethical standards.

Are gitti products suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals?

Gitti products are tested in line with applicable EU cosmetics standards and are generally safe for use. However, they have not been specifically developed or tested for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
