✧ What is a dual extract, and why does it matter?

Lion’s mane holds two distinct families of compounds. The water-soluble beta-glucans, found in the fruiting body’s cell walls, release through hot water. The fat-soluble compounds — including the hericenones lion’s mane is most studied for — require alcohol. A dual extract performs both, capturing the full spectrum of the mushroom’s chemistry at 10:1 concentration.

The result is a powder the body can readily absorb, free of the indigestible chitin that makes raw mushroom powder so poorly taken up.

✧ Where does our Lion’s Mane come from?

Wild cultivated in the Dabie Mountains of China, where the spores are inoculated onto hardwood logs and left to fruit naturally in clean mountain air. Only the fruiting body goes into our extract, never grain-grown mycelium — mycelium on grain substrate carries far less of the active compounds, which is why we’re particular about sourcing true fruiting body material from a producer we’ve worked with for years.

✧ How do you take Lion’s Mane Extract?

One gram a day — roughly half a level teaspoon. Stir into warm water, plant milk, coffee or a smoothie. Many take it in the morning with their first coffee, and it pairs particularly well with cacao or chai-style spices. As a dual extract it’s best in hot water; some of the fat-soluble fraction may not fully dissolve, which is normal. It can also go into soups, stews or porridge for something more savoury. There’s no brewing or steeping to do; the extraction has already done that work.

Mild, faintly nutty, gently mushroom-forward — softer than reishi or chaga, and with no bitterness. One of the easier mushroom extracts to get used to. In warm water it makes a pale golden drink, and the flavour blends well with sweet and savoury alike, which is why lion’s mane is often the first extract customers reach for when building a daily practice.
