This handcrafted, portable sun-stick is formulated with sun-harmonizing botanicals that come to life under our star’s nourishing rays. Pure sunlight ignites the beneficial properties in these excellent elixirs that also smell like summer fun. High concentrations of sun-friendly flavonoids and carotenoids lend rich colors to some of these robust essences. This melody of tropical coconut, sweet flowers, warm spices, and verdant flora is a sensual invitation to long, languid summer days. Into these essences we have swirled balmy beeswax for its porous powers, rich cacao butter to soothe and moisturize thirsty skin and non-nanoparticle uncoated zinc oxide to shield skin on sunny days.

Use

Glide over the skin, paying special attention to your chin, nose and shoulders. Be sure to reapply at least every two hours and more often if you are sweating, swimming, or the UV index is high.

What is zinc oxide?
Zinc oxide (ZnO) is an awesome option as a sunblock. It is a white, inorganic compound created from metallic zinc. We use non-nanoparticle, uncoated, pharmaceutical-grade zinc oxide in Everybody Loves the Sunshine Zinc Beach Balm as it is the purest form of zinc available.
Unlike nano-particle minerals and chemical sun blocks, zinc doesn’t interfere with the health or respiration of the skin. The molecular size of zinc particles is too large to be absorbed by the skin. Instead, it sits on top and absorbs sun rays, protecting the skin.

Does the zinc oxide give skin a white sheen?
Yes. We do add botanical pigments, yet the zinc in Everybody Loves the Sunshine Zinc Beach Balm does give skin from the palest to the darkest tones a white sheen, and as of right now this is unavoidable. Yet, if a person is seeking a skin-wise and natural sun block, zinc oxide is still the very best option.

What about people of color?
People of color have used zinc paste for skin protection for hundreds of years. There are beautiful photos of women with darker skin in South East Asia with their faces veiled in white from the sheen of a zinc-rich paste called burak to keep their skin cool.
Zinc oxide will create a white or ashy cast on darker skin tones.

Is there a way to minimize the white sheen?
We have clients with the full range of skin tones who do not mind the white protection of zinc.
Yet, if you are not fond of the sheen or find it tricky to work with, you can minimize the sheen by putting some of the product in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, and then rub it on the face and body.
If you still find this unsuitable, you could also add some tint with a bit of makeup pigment that matches your skin tone.

Are there other options?
Yes. You can always use Everybody Loves Sunshine (without zinc) and wear a hat if you need extra shade.

Natural/Organic Ingredients

Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia chinensis) –Singing with a hearty 96% ceramides, glorious golden Jojoba is the seminal supplier of sumptuous ceramides to populations of parched skin. Ceramides make up a key part of our skin’s extra cellular matrix that protects and plumps our skin. The substantive sum of ceramides in Jojoba oil is very similar to those in the skin, and act to balance sebum and maintain moisture. Ceramides act like a magnetic-moisture that bonds, protects, and plumps to truly lock in moisture to the lipid barrier. It has an unparalleled ability to moisturize the skin, balance oil production, deep clean pores, and create long-lasting conditioning effects that soften skin to perfect silk. It is packed with peptides and lipids and contains the highest levels of phenolic compounds found in nature, along with antioxidants and all soluble forms of vitamin E.

Cold pressed Coconut Oil (Cocos nucifera) –Creamy Coconut oil is non-comedogenic and replete with constituents beneficial for skin integrity. It melts into the skin at a mere 75 degrees, ensuring seamless absorption under the sun’s heavenly rays. Our Virgin Coco-crème is processed at low temperatures and without solvents. This allows our oil to retain its full nutritional benefits.

Zinc Oxide – An amazing mineral that is inherently a broad-spectrum deflector and protector. Topically, its mechanism of action forms a physical barrier on the skin’s surface that primarily absorbs, yet also scatters and reflects, UV light. This simple and time-tested compound is safe for skin, historically used as an anti-inflammatory for common conditions like acne and diaper rashes. The FDA has deemed it Generally Recognized as Safe and Effective (GRASE), and importantly, it is photostable, meaning it does not degrade when exposed to ultraviolet radiation. Formulated with non-nanoparticle, uncoated, laboratory-grade zinc oxide, the purest form available. The molecular size of these zinc particles is bigger than the nano-particle version, and too large to penetrate or be absorbed by the skin’s outer layer (the stratum corneum). We prefer uncoated zinc as coated zinc oxide is made with a synthetic silicone coating. Unlike nanoparticle minerals and chemical sunscreens, our zinc oxide does not interfere with the skin’s natural respiration, ensuring maximum skin vitality.

Raspberry Seed –Rubus idaeus – This elegant emollient lavishes the skin with the sumptuous super-smoothing oil expressed from the succulent seeds of red raspberries. Differing from the cold-pressed seed oil, our special supercritical extract version is all that and more! This distillation process delivers twice the regenerative sterols and much higher amounts of naturally occurring antioxidants, like ellagic acid. Richer in phospholipid giving this extract stability, and it also has exceptionally high levels of alpha and gamma tocopherols (vitamin E) in active free form, pro-vitamin A content, coteries of carotenoids, and a nourishing dose of omega 3. The faint fruity aroma and seriously silky viscosity suture both skin and senses, and this concentrated chrism is especially adept at satisfying all skin.

Seabuckthorn Berry – Hippophae rhamnoides – It is no secret that we are super-fans of Seabuckthorn, and for good reason. This supercritical extract is rich in antioxidants and omegas, making it a powerful anti-aging infusion for all skin types. Packed with vitamins, lipids, and over 190 different bioactive compounds, Seabuckthorn is intensely regenerative. It also contains Omega 7, a rare fatty acid and one of the most crucial building blocks for healthy, luminous skin. Because it is able to penetrate skin cell membranes, Seabuckthorn offers protection for both the inner and outer layers of each individual skin cell. It also known to suppresses activation of NF-kB, an inflammation-causing compound, beautifully nourishing damaged skin, fading dark spots, and reducing inflammation.

This fine fruit wax, a blessing from the berry of an evergreen shrub that grows at high altitudes in the Andes, provides a sheer, supple layer to the lipid layer that seals in moisture, adorning pores with its occlusive protection.

Tamanu Berry – Calophyllum inophyllum – A benevolent tropical berry, revered as “Green Gold” throughout the Pacific Islands for centuries, Tamanu is far more than just a skin elixir; it is a living legend. This precious oil, once sacredly grown near temples and used by ancient islanders to protect against sun, wind, and sea, swiftens the emergence of new skin cells.
