Treat Yourself: A Cosy Autumn Skincare Edit

treat-yourself-skincare-blog

The days are shorter, the evenings are darker, and there is a perfectly good reason to spend a little longer in the bathroom. Autumn is when skincare starts to feel less like a chore and more like a treat.

You don’t need a cupboard full of products to do it. Think of it as a handful of small moments, each one a little nicer than strictly necessary. Here is our cosy autumn edit.

Start With a Proper Cleanse

Everything feels better after a proper cleanse, and a slow one is the easiest way to turn a routine into a treat. Oils, balms and creamy cleansers suit the colder months well, because they melt into the skin instead of stripping it.

Agent Nateur’s Holi (Cleanse) Cleansing Face Oil and Maya Chia’s The Great Cleanse, a nourishing supercritical cleansing oil, both dissolve the day without leaving your skin feeling tight. RMS Beauty’s Coconut Clean Cleansing Balm starts as a balm and turns into a silky oil as you massage it in. If you prefer something creamier, Living Libations’ Neroli Glow Polishing Crème Cleanser has a lovely scent and a gentle polishing feel, and the Gentle Cleansing Melt is a good everyday choice.

Finish with a warm, damp Organic Cotton Face Cloth to lift everything away. It makes the whole thing feel a bit like a spa treatment.

Tip: Massage the cleanser in for a full minute before rinsing. It’s a short, easy way to make cleansing feel like more than a necessity.

A Mask Night

A mask is the easiest excuse to sit down and do nothing for ten minutes. Autumn is a good time for it, and honey is the ingredient that makes it feel cosiest.

Start with the Hydrating Silicone Sheet Mask, because it works with everything else on this list. It’s designed to be used over your skincare, so it turns the serums, oils and masks you already own into something closer to a full facial. Think of it as an extra step that helps your favourite products do more, rather than a mask on its own.

Then choose your mask. Living Libations’ Frankincense Honey Mask is a classic, and the Golden Age Honey Mask is an illuminating face reveal in a similar spirit. The Night Milk Honey Mask is a mineralising natural AHA face infusion, for evenings when your skin could use a little polish. Leahlani’s Meli Glow Illuminating Nectar Mask brings a gentle glow, and Vemel’s Glow Resurfacing Mask is another one to try when you want your skin to look its brightest. The Pot de Fleurs Mineral and Mallow Mud Mask is for the nights when you want something more earthy, and Maya Chia’s The Refresh Mint Mask is a minty-blue exfoliating moisture mask that stands out from the rest.

Tip: Run a warm bath or put on your favourite playlist while the mask sits, and follow the directions on the pack for timing. If you are trying an exfoliating mask, patch test first and avoid using it on the same night as other strong treatments.

The Serum You Keep Eyeing

Every wishlist has one. It’s the serum you have looked at several times, put back, and then looked at again. Autumn is a very good moment to stop doing that.

If you want something simple, Evolve’s Hyaluronic Serum 200 is an easy, affordable way to add hydration. Leahlani’s Siren Brightening Serum is a bright, fresh-feeling option, and the Mahina Evening Replenishing Elixir is made for the end of the day. Vemel’s Advanced Protective Serum is a favourite among our customers, and Agent Nateur’s Holi (Oil) Refining Ageless Face Serum is a more indulgent choice. Living Libations’ Night Nectar is another good one for the evening shelf.

Tip: Apply your serum to slightly damp skin, right after cleansing or a toner, so it sits on the skin instead of disappearing. If you are introducing a new serum, start with it every other night so your skin can adjust.

Something for the Lips

Cold weather and dry lips are a predictable pair, and a good lip balm is one of the smallest treats you can buy. They are also the ones most likely to end up in every coat pocket.

Living Libations’ Lover Lips come in some very autumnal flavours. Vanilla Chamomile is soft and sweet, Cinnamon Seabuckthorn Hot Lover Lips is warming, and Chocolate Mocha is as tempting as it sounds. The Mint Condition Lip Fix is the fresh option, and the Ruby Juice Lover Lips adds a touch of colour. For something a bit richer, the Velvet Sole Lip + Face Balm is a hydrating balm that doubles up for dry patches on the face.

Tip: Keep one by your bed, one in your bag and one by your desk. Applying it before bed is a small habit that makes a big difference by morning.

A Little Luxury for the Body

Winter skin often needs more help than the face does, and the body is easy to forget. A proper body routine is a treat that lasts longer than you think.

Start with a scrub. The Mandarin Mecca Coffee Scrub is a warm, energising way to polish the skin in the shower, and the Natural Wood Body Brush is a simple tool for a drier, more invigorating routine. After that, the Holi (Wash) Ageless Resurfacing Body Cleanser makes the shower feel a bit more indulgent.

To finish, reach for the Pamplemousse Replenishing Body Oil, a citrusy oil that smells like sunshine on a grey day. Vemel’s Marigold Nectar, [short description of what it is and how it’s used], is another lovely addition to this step. Blue Beautifly’s Organic Cacao Body Balm and Living Libations’ Seabuckthorn All Over Lotion are richer choices for very dry skin, and Evolve’s Joyful Light Hand & Body Lotion is a lighter one for everyday.

Tip: Apply body oil or lotion within a couple of minutes of leaving the shower, while your skin is still damp. It absorbs better and feels softer for longer.

Make an Evening of It

You don’t have to try everything at once. Pick one or two things from this edit, light a candle, and give yourself a little time. Treating yourself doesn’t have to be a big gesture. A slow cleanse, a mask and a good lip balm are enough to make a Tuesday feel different.
