What is Biotech Beauty?

Biotech Beauty is the process of creating skin-benefiting elements from plant-based (aka renewable) materials via fermentation or cell culture, to formulate performative bioactives—the key ingredient in science-backed Codex Beauty Labs.

The science of Biotech Beauty uses microbes (think bacteria, yeast, and algae) to sustainably produce high-tech skincare actives for effective results. Our innovative approach to skincare results in more efficient production of ‘all the good stuff’ for pure, concentrated ingredients using less water and energy for minimum waste and maximum efficacy.

Codex Beauty Labs also uses a unique science-meets-nature beauty philosophy in its plant-based approach to skincare. We with ethnobotanists to identify medicinal plants, then thoroughly research the impact of their actives on gene expression in skin cells. We utilize either state-of-the-art extract methods or bio-fermentation to create the resulting actives. We then formulate to enhance the potency of the performance of these bioactives.

We focus on using plants versus fossil fuels to produce our bioactives in sustainable ways and ideate ‘plant-based biotech beauty’ to minimize our overall carbon footprint. This process is one of the ways we’re reimagining the future of skincare.
