Why Skin Types Don’t Matter

abloom slow skincare

Skin types are a tricky one. Did you know that up to 40% of people misdiagnose their skin type and as a result keep trying the wrong products? There is also the mix up between skin types and skin conditions. Skin types are pretty much the description of how and why your skin looks, feels and behaves as it does. The four most common skin types are normal, dry, oily and combination skin. Skin conditions, on the other hand, can refer to temporary conditions of the body. Conditions occur in many different skin types and include dehydration, dryness, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and acne, among other skin conditions.

Whilst skin types are pretty much stable, skin conditions change depending on external influences such as the weather, pollution (free radicals), sun exposure, skin care routine, indoor heating, air-conditioning, but also because of internal influences such as dietary changes, hormonal fluctuations, skin disorders (rosacea, psoriasis etc.). As a result of these fluctuations, what your skin needs from a skin care routine changes sometimes even from day to day (think about that dehydration that follows the morning after a great party). Defining a skin care regimen is therefore not a one-off.

When developing Abloom we set out to create a range of products that would be 100% pure, highly nutritious, uncomplicated and simply the best. We wanted to create products so loaded with goodies (think vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, humectants etc) that your skin can take from them what it needs. That is why on average we use 22 different ingredients in one product, and we put 2 x but more often up to 4 x the scientifically required dose to get the best results. We also developed a range of products that allow you to build in some flexibility without having to overpopulate your bathroom cabinet with 10s of potions, lotions and serums.

So, what we recommend is to find a base regimen that works for you. Based on the most common skin concerns we have identified 6 regimens that may serve as a starting point. Per regimen we have listed our hero products. Start with those and build from there. If you like the result, there is a more extensive regimen you may want to consider.

One last comment on our range. No matter what your skin condition is, we invariably recommend our Miracle Treatment Oil. This product is a true genius. Natural cold-pressed oil mixed with 22 different ingredients make it a true miracle worker. And it scores a 10 out of 10 on the flexibility scale. Easily dial your regimen up by adding a few drops of oil mixed with a cream or apply it as a last step to lock in serums or moisturizers.

Dry & Dehydrated Skin

If you have dry skin, it may be that your skin’s barrier has become unbalanced. This means you have an increased risk of developing fine lines, redness, and itchy skin, and makes it easier for bacteria to penetrate your skin. Not great news, but you can do something about it. Your best friend is Abloom Miracle Treatment Oil. Natural cold-pressed oil powered up by 22 different ingredients. Mix a few drops with your day or night cream or apply it on top of your cream in the morning and evening.

If you are interested in a full Abloom regimen to restore your skin’s balance, we recommend the following:

  • CLEANSE
In the morning and evening use Abloom Purifying Cleanser. It gently cleanses your skin and the sophisticated mix of wild seaweed, medicinal herbs and therapeutic oils soften, hydrate and replenish even the most demanding skin.

The cleansing almond oil in Abloom Eye Make-up Remover is gentle, soft and won’t irritate your eyes.
  • BALANCE & NOURISH
Use Abloom Soothing Lotion in the morning followed by Day Cream mixed with a few drops Miracle Treatment Oil.

In the evening just swap day cream for night cream but other than that use the same products; after you cleanse your face, use the lotion to calm your skin followed by night cream with a few drops of oil for additional nourishment.

Only use eye cream if the skin around your eyes is even drier. Bladderwrack and wakame in our eye cream nourish the thin and sensitive skin around your eyes.
  • BOOST
Dry skin often looks dull and flaky. We recommend using our Enzyme Peeling once a week. The fruit enzymes in our peeling remove excess build-up and will make your skin look radiant again.

Very Dry & Sensitive Skin

Does your skin suffer from redness, itchiness, flaky patches or general discomfort? This could be caused by chemicals. Chemicals, like parabens and synthetic perfumes damage the lipid barrier of your skin and cause constant irritation. Your need to start building up your skin’s immune system.

If your skin is sensitive, you should be very careful about introducing our skincare products. Start with the Organic Day Cream. It’s nice and gentle and will calm your skin down. Another thing to try is our Universal Bio Mask. Use this once or twice a week to build up your immune system. As your skin stabilizes, you could slowly introduce our other products.

Mature & Dehydrated Skin

As you get older, you may find it more difficult to keep your skin moisturized. This is because the lipid barrier decrease as we mature. Skin produces less oil or sebum than it used to. Fewer natural oils means less moisture. Over time, this makes us more prone to dry skin, which may advance to dehydrated skin if skin isn’t regularly moisturized.

If you add only one product to your regimen, let it be our Miracle Treatment Oil. Natural, cold-pressed oil is the greatest gift you can give to your skin. Mix a few drops with your day and night cream or apply after you have applied serums / moisturizers.

If you are interested in a full Abloom regimen, we recommend the following:

Use Abloom Soothing Lotion in the morning followed by Day Cream mixed with a few drops of Miracle Treatment Oil.
In the evening just swap day cream for night cream but other than that use the same products; after you cleanse your face, use the lotion to calm your skin followed by night cream with a few drops of oil for additional nourishment.
Eye cream is optional. If the skin around your eyes is even drier, then the bladderwrack and wakame in our eye cream nourish the thin and sensitive skin around your eyes. Otherwise just use the day or night cream.
  • BOOST
To boost the process of restoring and rebalancing your dry skin, use Cell Recovery Mask. It’s filled with a wide variety of berries which are packed with antioxidants and vitamins that stimulate the production of collagen and strengthen your capillaries.

Normal Skin

Do you have normal skin? Good for you! Now let’s keep it that way.

Normal refers to skin that is well-balanced. Overall sebum and moisture are balanced and the skin is neither too oily nor too dry. If you were to add one Abloom product to your regimen, make it our Purifying Cleanser. It gently cleanses your skin and the sophisticated mix of wild seaweed, medicinal herbs and therapeutic oils soften, hydrate and replenish. This way your skin’s balance remains in tact.

If you are interested in a full Abloom regimen, we recommend the following:

  • CLEANSE
In the morning and evening use our Purifying Cleanser, possibly in combination with our Eye Make-up Remover.
  • TONE & MOISTURE
If you prefer lightweight formulas, use our Hydrating Toner. It’s the perfect choice for anyone looking for moisture, nourishment and anti-aging all in one. Use the Toner in the morning, followed by Night Cream in the evening.
Alternatively, use our Day and Night Cream. They are a perfect nutritious combination both packed with an arsenal of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
Eye Cream only when the skin around your eyes is a bit drier than the rest of your face. Otherwise just use day or night cream.
  • MASKS & PEELING
To maintain your skin’s balance, use our Universal Mask once a week. This mask is wonderful for boosting your skin’s immune system.

Oily Skin

The skin secretes natural oils to keep itself moisturized, but for people with oily skin, this process can go into overdrive. Most important is to calm down the production of sebum and protect your skin against bacteria. Our recommendation is to use the Abloom Soothing Lotion. This will disinfect your skin in a gentle way. And use our Universal Bio Mask to build up your skin’s immunity.

If you are interested in a full Abloom regimen, we recommend the following:

  • CLEANSE
Morning and evening, use our Purifying Cleanser. It’s a gentle cleanser that also nourishes. Cleansing oily skin too aggressively may actually cause your skin to produce even more sebum which in turn makes it actually oilier not less! In addition use Eye Make-Up Remover if desired.
  • BALANCE & MOISTURIZE
Avoid using thick creams, but don’t skip hydration altogether. Use a lightweight formula such as our Soothing Lotion in the morning and evening. It is antiseptic, prevents inflammation and hydrates your skin.
Apply Miracle Treatment Oil 4 x a week. It may sound counterintuitive using an oil on oily skin, but ours actually is able to regulate sebum production and restores your skin’s balance. Apply the oil following the Soothing Lotion.
  • MASK
Treat your skin with Abloom Blossom Mask 2 x a week. It provides a powerful boost to the microcirculation of your skin – essential for the flow of oxygen, absorption of nutrients and clearing toxins.

Acne Prone Skin

A high level of sebum production + bacteria + stress + mineral oil = acne ?

But there are things you can do.

Start by checking your beauty products, especially foundation and concealer, whether they contain mineral oil. Mineral oil or white oil, vaseline, paraffin, liquid paraffin etc. locks in moisture and makes products feel silky-smooth and luxurious, but mineral oil can also clog pores. It seals the skin off and prevents skin from excreting toxins. The clogged pores and build-up of toxins will cause pimples, red spots, acne, black heads etc.

Avoid stress. The stress hormone cortisol increases sebum production and. Too much sebum can lead to oily skin, clogged pores and acne.

Certain bacteria in and on your body can give you a healthier complexion. The bad bacteria may cause inflammation so you want to keep the good and get rid of the bad. To calm your skin and remove bad bacteria, use an anti-bacterial product like Abloom Soothing Lotion. But don’t be too clean! You must keep your good skin bacteria and some sebum, both are highly anti-bacterial. Cleanse your face only one time per day, in the evening and use a mild cleanser that also nourishes such as Abloom Purifying Cleanser.

Last but not least, use our Miracle Treatment Oil every other night. Oil is a substance that keeps moist in the skin. It also calms down sebum production. So especially for oily, acne prone skin we advise …..oil!
