What is Vitamin-F and how does it work?

It is rich in Omega 6 which is essential for maintaining healthy skin and hair, and it’s high fatty acid content means that it offers a range of health benefits from supporting mental health to improved cardiac health. But why should we use vitamin F in our skincare?

In this blog we’ll talk all about what it actually is, where it is found, the benefits of vitamin F and how to include it in your own skincare routine.

SO WHAT IS VITAMIN – F?

Vitamin F is made up of two essential fatty acids. These are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid, and linoleic acid (LA), an omega-6 fatty acid both of which are incredibly important and play a major role in maintaining the health of our skin.

You can gain health benefits such as reduced inflammation and aid in blood sugar control by filling your diet with foods high in vitamin F, or you can apply it topically onto your skin to discover its skincare benefits!

Where is it found?

There are so many foods that are great sources of vitamin F, and are super easy to include in your diet, if fact you may already include some of them! Some amazing foods that are a good source of healthy fatty acids are avocados, almonds, chia seeds, and all kinds of sprouts.

It can also be found in lots of essential oils such as Rosehip Oil and Argan Oil, both of which we love using in our products. These are great to use in skincare, either on its own or mixed in with more wonderful ingredients like our amazing artisans do in our studio!

What does vitamin F do for the skin?

Vitamin F has a whole host of benefits for our skin, from protecting and hydrating to keeping it calm and giving it a glow. Here are just some examples of what vitamin F does for the skin.

  • Protects Skin
As it makes ceramides on the skin, these help to build our outermost layer of skin and act like glue to keep cells together. This means that vitamin F can help to block out irritants, UV light and pollutants that would otherwise damage skin.
  • Retains Moisture
Vitamin F becomes ceramides when used on the skin, a family of lipids that help form the skin’s barrier and help the skin retain moisture.
  • Reduces Inflammation
Vitamin F can help with some inflammatory skin conditions such as dermatitis and psoriasis as it helps to reduce inflammation as well as regulate healthy cell function, and excessive water loss.
  • Calms Skin
Helps to soothe and calm irritated skin by helping our skin’s barrier become healthier. This aids with irritable and inflamed skin as well as helping to calm troubled skin such as those prone to breakouts and blemishes.
  • Tackles Blemishes
Some studies have shown that those who experience trouble with acne prone skin could reduce blemishes by 25% in around a month, by applying linoleic acid (vitamin F) topically.

How to include vitamin c in your skincare routine

It is really easy to include vitamin F in your skincare, and it is absolutely suitable for daily use. We recommend using it twice a day, both in the morning and evening to see its amazing benefits.

  1. Step One:
Cleanse your skin using our Liquid Crystal 2-in-1 Micellic Cleanser. This 2-in-1 micellic water cleanses and tones your skin at the same time, perfect for a quick skincare routine on a busy morning, or equally as relaxing to remove make up in the evening. This cleanser uses Pomegranate Extract to regulate cell turnover and reveal brighter skin, and Hyaluronic Acid to penetrate skin and hydrate from within whilst plumping up fine lines and wrinkles.

Simply apply onto your face and neck using an eco friendly reusable bamboo pad to remove any make up and impurities from your skin.

  2. Step Two: Boost your skin with our brand new Bio-Retinol + C Booster. This oil based booster uses a cocktail of vitamins A, C, E and F to leave your skin looking brighter whilst delivering anti-ageing benefits through increased collagen production.

Just apply two drops of the oil onto your face and gently massage into your skin. Alternatively, if you are looking for a quicker way to get your vitamin F hit you could add our booster into your favourite moisturiser. Just mix two drops of our Bio-Retinol + C Booster into your moisturiser in the palm of your hand before applying directly onto your face.

  3. Step Three:Apply a hydrating moisturiser. Our Daily Renew Facial Cream contains organic Argan Oil which is high in fatty acids, giving skin a youthful glow whilst deeply hydrating it.
