After iron, zinc is the most abundant element in the human body. Zinc supports the immune system and contributes to the capture of free radicals in (body) cells. Zinc also contributes to normal fertility and reproduction.
- Highly absorbable thanks to L-Optizinc® zinc methionine
- Contributes among other things to normal stress resistance and normal cognitive function
- Provides 15 mg elementary zinc per capsule
Why Zinc?
Zinc is versatile. It is a trace element: a mineral that the body needs in small amounts, but cannot make itself. Zinc is found in bones, muscles, liver, kidneys and skin. Zinc has an antioxidant effect and has a broad role in supporting health. It is important for general health, as well as in specific phases of our lives, for example, the reproductive phase and for people who are getting older.
– Zinc supports the immune system
– Zinc plays a role in the cell division process
– Zinc contributes to normal acid-base metabolism
– Zinc is good for vision
– Zinc plays an important role in mental effort and activity
– Zinc contributes to normal fertility in men and women
– Zinc is good for sperm quality and it contributes to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood
Zinc is an important trace element. It is found in plant and animal foods, but not in large quantities. In particular, oysters contain a lot of zinc compared to other food sources (1000 mg/kg). Other sources rich in zinc are liver (30-150 mg/kg), crab (30-80 mg/kg), red meat (15-25 mg/kg) and to a lesser extent poultry and fish (4-8 mg/kg). Beans, (pecan) nuts, seeds (such as pumpkin seeds) and certain types of seafood (such as lobster) also contain zinc. Fruits and vegetables contain relatively little zinc, so a vegan or vegetarian diet may be prone to deficiencies. Deficiencies can also occur with many diseases or regular alcohol consumption. It may make sense to supplement zinc with a supplement.
The benefits of Bonusan Zinc Methionine 15 mg
Bonusan Zinc Methionine contains 75 mg of zinc methionine per capsule, of which 20% is elemental zinc. This is equivalent to 15 mg of zinc that the body can use effectively. A daily dosage can vary from 1 to 3 capsules, depending on what zinc is used for. Your health professional may be able to recommend higher dosages. Zinc methionine is an easily absorbed form of zinc. This is due to the organic binding to L-methionine, an amino acid that is well absorbed in our bodies. Bonusan Zinc Methionine 15 mg comes in small, easy-to-swallow capsules.
High-quality thanks to L-Optizinc®.
Bonusan Zinc Methionine 15 mg contains 100% zinc methionine from L-Optizinc®. This is a patented raw material in which zinc is bound to the amino acid L-methionine. The advantage of this bond is that our body does not see zinc as a mineral but as an amino acid. This avoids mineral competition. Another advantage is that the absorption of amino acids, especially methionine, is higher than that of minerals. Bonusan Zinc Methionine is therefore guaranteed to deliver 15 mg of elemental zinc per capsule.
What is mineral competition?
Most minerals are absorbed via passive transport. The ingested mineral salts then split in the stomach acid. This creates ions, such as magnesium ions (Mg2+) or zinc ions (Zn2+), which can then be absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract via a passive transporter. Mineral competition means that multiple minerals use the same transporters and therefore impede each other’s absorption. In addition, ions are also vulnerable to binding with (anti-)nutrients in the stomach that inhibit absorption, such as fibres, phosphates, phytates and oxalates. With such binding, the ions are no longer available to be absorbed in the gut.
Minerals bound to amino acids (chelated) are very strong, covalent compounds that do not split in stomach acid. The absorption of these metal-amino acid bonds, such as magnesium bisglycinate and zinc methionine, is called active transport. Active transport mechanisms are available in the intestine for amino acids. Uptake takes place in the duodenum and jejunum (first and second parts of the small intestine) after which the molecules are disconnected and the loose mineral has its effect. Mineral amino acid chelates such as magnesium bisglycinate and zinc methionine are therefore the best absorbable forms.
Suitable for supporting the immune system and normal fertility
There are many people who experience health benefits from zinc. In particular, the trace element is known for its contribution to the normal functioning of the immune system. Furthermore, zinc contributes to:
– the maintenance of normal skin, normal nails and normal bones
– a normal macronutrient metabolism (carbohydrate metabolism, metabolism of fatty acids and vitamin A)
– a normal acid-base metabolism
– the protection of cells against oxidative damage
Specifically for the elderly, zinc can be useful because the mineral contributes to the maintenance of normal vision and cognitive function.
Bonusan Zinc Methionine can also offer a solution for people who wish to have children. Zinc contributes to normal male and female fertility and is good for sperm quality. Zinc also contributes to the maintenance of normal testosterone levels in the blood.
Bonusan Zinc Methionine 15 mg contains no animal substances and is therefore suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
