Palo Santo (Sacred Wood) Natural Incense

To ensure that the wood is sustainably gathered from fallen branches or trees that have naturally perished and been given the necessary time to complete their metamorphosis, our suppliers collaborate with the local and tribal people.

The South American coast is the home of the Palo Santo plant, which is related to Copal, Myrrh, and Frankincense. Palo Santo translates to “Holy or Sacred Wood” in Spanish. The alchemical process that takes place after a branch or tree dies is where the magic is. The Palo Santo must pass away in order to acquire its curative virtues, but not just any passing away; it must pass away naturally as an old, wise branch or tree.

Palo Santo trees have an 80- to 90-year lifespan. The tree must stay in its native environment for another 4 to 10 years after this death in order to complete its metamorphosis. Then and only then do its mystical, therapeutic, and religious qualities manifest.

Shamans have used Palo Santo in ritual burnings for its capacity to purify and cure the energy field. It produces a pleasant, fragrant smoke with notes of citrus and mint that lifts and boosts your vibration before meditation and enables a closer spiritual connection. Palo Santo is also supposed to improve creativity and bring luck. Even in the dark, the room is filled with its lovely perfume.

How to use

The palo santo sticks we source are made entirely of the seasoned wood from the palo santo tree and do not contain any additives to aid in their burning. Since they are made entirely of wood, they do not keep burning like regular incense sticks (which are powdered ingredients, then bound together and rolled in a way that ensures they continue burning).

When burning palo santo wood as incense, you typically ignite the wood and let it burn for however long you’d like; the longer it burns, the more smoke it will produce when you blow the flame out.

After the flame is out, the stick will continue to emit smoke for a few minutes, which can be used to smudge or fragrance a room. Thereafter, it can be used as many times as necessary.
