“Amber and myrrh, benzoin and musk condense
to transports of the spirit and the sense!”
~ Allen Tate, 20th century
“The seeds, sometimes called Musk seeds, Musky seeds, Abelmosk seeds, Ambrette seeds or Amber seeds, hold their scent for a very long time and were once much used by perfumers for scenting gloves, mattresses, and pillows. Today they are used in sachets and for adulterating musk. The oil is used in quality fragrances [like] L’Egoiste and Heaven.”
~ N. Groom, New Perfume Handbook
Amaline –
At first, the scent reminded me of freshly ground sesame seeds. However, it has unusual layers… something sweet and savory. I found it to be cooling. It opened up my sinuses much like something with menthol or a bay leave would… only it is much gentler and not minty. It’s like a subtle sweet wood, toasted and nutty, and something else I just can’t describe.
