Single Farm Hydrosols
This year, we’re honored to introduce four new single-farm hydrosols in addition to bringing back a favorite from last year.
Each is artisan-distilled on the same farm where they are grown, and unlike commercial distillations, the essential oils have not been removed.
You’ll notice these hydrosols offer a richer, more moisturizing hydration than those available commercially. They also should be considered a soul expression of both the plant and the artisan who distilled them.
Concerned growers have staged protests against distillery houses, demanding fair wages, yet Bulgarian Rose prices remain low.
This points to unethical practices, and, unfortunately, the Fair Trade Organization cannot keep up and
visit every business every year.
As a company, Laurel Skin is responsible for close to 4 tons of fresh Rose petals harvested annually, and we have been working on cultivating a source for California grown Roses for nearly a decade.
While we haven’t yet been able to free ourselves from all the Bulgarian Rose supply ethical concerns,
we are thrilled to be able to offer this California sourced hydrosol in limited quantities again this year as our
small contribution to change.
While this single-farmed, artisan-distilled hydrosol is more expensive than its mass-produced counterparts, here is what you are supporting with your purchase:
- The moral understanding that this is what Rose petal distillations would cost when farmers are paid fairly. We
are doing our best to shift the industry towards more ethical labor standards, and our pricing
is a part of that. - The essential oil has not been removed from this distillation, ensuring an exceptional quality and
potency. One drop of Rose essential oil contains 60 roses, and is valued close to $40 per ml. This style
of distillation is unheard of with Roses, and will result in a more moisturizing humectant hydrosol.
