Dit is een vraag waarop zij meestal geen antwoord hebben en die zij dus terecht stellen in de stoel van de tandarts of mondhygi\u00ebnist. De meningen zijn verdeeld, ook binnen de tandheelkunde. In dit artikel spreken verschillende deskundigen uit de tandheelkundige industrie over het gebruik van fluoride. De ene raadt aan ermee te poetsen, de andere geeft de voorkeur aan een alternatief. U kunt hun argumenten hieronder lezen. Daarom wordt het v\u00f3\u00f3r gebruik altijd aan een andere stof gebonden. Dit kan een zout zijn zoals natrium<strong>(natriumfluoride<\/strong>) of een metaal zoals tin<strong>(tinfluoride<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\n\t<div id=\"col-362138871\" class=\"col medium-4 small-12 large-4\"  >\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-inner text-shadow-2\"  >\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\n<p>de meest voorkomende vorm van fluoride is natriumfluoride. De meeste gefluorideerde tandpasta&#8217;s bevatten dit type fluoride. Naast het gebruik in de tandheelkunde wordt fluoride ook in de industrie gebruikt. Het is onder meer nuttig voor het etsen van glas en als ingredi\u00ebnt in bestrijdingsmiddelen. Naast de hierboven genoemde soorten is er ook <strong>calciumfluoride. <\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\n\t<div id=\"col-270545526\" class=\"col medium-4 small-12 large-4\"  >\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-inner text-shadow-2\"  >\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\n\n<p><strong>Dit is de veiligste vorm van fluoride<\/strong>. Het is een verbinding tussen calciumzout en fluoride. Het opmerkelijke aan deze verbinding is dat zij nauwelijks oplosbaar is in water. Dit is al vele malen onderzocht en bewezen. Het bouwt zich op in het glazuur en beschermt het tegen de Streptococcus mutans bacteri\u00ebn, waarvan we weten dat ze cari\u00ebs veroorzaken. Cor van Loveren, gepensioneerd hoogleraar preventieve tandheelkunde aan het Academisch Centrum Tandheelkunde Amsterdam, legt uit. &#8220;Het is heel duidelijk dat fluoride een enorme bescherming biedt tegen gaatjes. Voordat fluoride in Nederland werd gebruikt, hadden kinderen op vijfjarige leeftijd gemiddeld achttien gaatjes; nu zijn dat er ongeveer drie.&#8221; Van Loveren legt in het artikel verder uit dat het mineraal calcium een belangrijk onderdeel is van de tand. &#8220;Calcium kan worden opgelost door zuren, die in de mond worden gevormd uit suikers. Hierdoor ontstaan gaatjes. Dat hangt, zoals bij veel stoffen, af van de dosis. &#8221; Als je veel te veel fluoride in \u00e9\u00e9n keer binnenkrijgt, kan het zich gaan binden aan het calcium in het bloed. Als een peuter bijvoorbeeld alle tandpasta van zijn ouders in \u00e9\u00e9n keer opeet, kan dit leiden tot een tijdelijk tekort aan calcium, wat gevaarlijk kan zijn. Tijdelijke opname in het ziekenhuis is dan noodzakelijk om de hoeveelheid calcium in het bloed te controleren en zo nodig aan te vullen door middel van een infuus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">De <a href=\"https:\/\/www.efsa.europa.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/assets\/UL_Summary_tables.pdf\">Europese Autoriteit voor voedselveiligheid<\/a> stelt de maximale dagelijkse veilige hoeveelheid fluoride voor volwassenen op 7 milligram per dag. Volgens een <a href=\"https:\/\/efsa.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.2903\/j.efsa.2013.3332\">Amerikaans onderzoek<\/a> krijgen volwassenen ongeveer 0,1 milligram fluoride per dag binnen via tandpasta. Uit een <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Health_News\/2010\/12\/17\/Fluoride-coating-much-thinner-than-thought\/38231292636410\/?ur3=1\">studie<\/a> aan de Saarland Universiteit in Duitsland blijkt dat de fluorhechting aan het glazuur door het poetsen met gefluorideerde tandpasta beperkt blijft tot een dikte van slechts zes nanometer. De onderzoekers betwijfelen of zulke extreem dunne laagjes fluorapatiet in staat zijn gaatjes te voorkomen.  &nbsp;<\/p>\n\t<div id=\"text-4190472099\" class=\"text\">\n\t\t\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-experts-are-saying\" style=\"text-align: left;\">Wat deskundigen zeggen<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ronald Muts, een Nederlandse tandarts met meer dan 30 jaar ervaring in de biologische tandheelkunde, geeft er de voorkeur aan zich te richten op het handhaven van een goede mondhygi\u00ebne, zonder chemicali\u00ebn. &#8220;Naar mijn mening is dat de beste methode om het ontstaan van gaatjes te voorkomen, en niet het gebruik van fluoride,&#8221; legt hij uit in de Nederlandse <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radioviainternet.nl\/podcasts\/oersterk-podcast-met-drs-richard-de-leth\/2021\/ronald-muts-het-gebit-heeft-een-grote-invloed-op-de-algehele-gezondheid\">podcast Oersterk<\/a>. &#8220;Geen arts gebruikt zoveel niet-biologische materialen en stoffen als een tandarts.&nbsp;  Uiteindelijk vraag je je af of al deze toepassingen gezond zijn voor je lichaam of niet. Fluoride is daar naar mijn mening een voorbeeld van. Fluoride wordt gemengd met uw speeksel en het wordt vaak door kinderen ingeslikt. De bacteri\u00ebn die gaatjes veroorzaken voeden zich met suikers. Als er beperkte momenten op de dag zijn waarop u eet, zullen er minder snel gaatjes ontstaan. Vitaminen en mineralen dragen ook bij aan een goede mondgezondheid. Vitamine D helpt bijvoorbeeld gaatjes te voorkomen, net als calcium en magnesium. Fluoride is nodig als er demineralisatie heeft plaatsgevonden. bluem gebruikt een combinatie van ingredi\u00ebnten die samenwerken om tandplak en bacteri\u00ebn te verminderen, waardoor er minder mineralen aan het tandoppervlak worden onttrokken. Elke pati\u00ebnt is een individu, maar in veel gevallen is fluoridevrij poetsen mogelijk.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Mondhygi\u00ebniste Lieneke Steverink-Jorna heeft daar wel wat bedenkingen bij. Zij zegt dat fluoridevrij poetsen alleen gunstig is voor mensen die niet of minder gevoelig zijn voor gaatjes. &#8220;Sommige mensen kiezen er bewust voor om tandpasta zonder fluoride te gebruiken. Dat is prima, zeker als je nooit gaatjes krijgt. Helaas hebben veel mensen dat geluk niet. Natuurlijk is het dan heel belangrijk om je voeding en je poetstechniek te laten controleren door de mondhygi\u00ebnist. Fluoride helpt enorm om de ontwikkeling van cari\u00ebs te voorkomen. Als al uw inspanningen op niets zijn uitgelopen, is fluoride een veilig middel om te omarmen,&#8221; zegt Steverink-Jorna.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">De Australische tandarts Dr Steven Lin schreef een <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/lifestyle\/health-and-wellness\/fluoride-debates-should-switch-focus-to-cause-of-tooth-decay-20150909-gji62b.html\">artikel<\/a>, gepubliceerd in 2015, over de voors en tegens van fluoridegebruik. Aangezien het grootste deel van het Australische water in de jaren &#8217;60 en &#8217;70 werd gefluorideerd, komt tandbederf in Australi\u00eb nog steeds in bijna epidemische omvang voor. Waarom? Omdat we bezig zijn met ruzie maken over de verkeerde dingen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Zelfs nu er in Australi\u00eb al meer dan een halve eeuw waterfluoridering wordt toegepast, wordt tandbederf door de Australian Dental Association nog steeds beschouwd als een van de meest voorkomende ziekten van het land. Het probleem is dat fluoride de hoofdoorzaak van tandbederf niet aanpakt: onze voeding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Tandbederf bestaat in zijn huidige vorm pas zo&#8217;n 200 jaar. Uit archeologische vondsten blijkt dat de mens duizenden jaren lang heeft geleefd zonder dat er sprake was van een tandaandoening van betekenis. In het dierenrijk is tandbederf even zeldzaam. De onrustbarende realiteit is dat tandbederf een ziekte van de menselijke beschaving is en hoewel fluoride toepassingen heeft bij de behandeling, is het zeker niet het wondermiddel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">De kern van het probleem wordt gevormd door de bacteri\u00eble veranderingen in onze mond die optreden als gevolg van de consumptie van eenvoudige koolhydraten. Dit leidt tot de proliferatie van bepaalde microben waarvan de metabolieten vernietiging van het tandoppervlak veroorzaken.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Van fluoride is bekend dat het bepaalde antibacteri\u00eble werkingen in de mond heeft die sommige bacteri\u00ebn lijken te remmen. Maar met minstens 500-700 soorten in de mond, is het onduidelijk welke invloed dit heeft op het hele ecosysteem. Fluoride is geen remedie tegen tandbederf.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\n\n\t<div id=\"col-1196162923\" class=\"col medium-5 small-12 large-5\"  >\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"col-inner
