Hair loss is something that happens to most of us as some time in our lives. If your are reading this, you are probably worrried about hair loss and have tried many natural and non-natural remedies to slow down or stop hair loss. Whilst, there are so many products that claim to stop or slow down hair loss or grow you hair back thicker fuller and healthier, it can sometimes be hard to tell which methods to trust on your locks.

It is absolutely normal to shed your hair and in general for a healthy normal person, you can expect to between 50 and 100 hairs a day, often without even noticing that it is happening. Hair loss is usually nothing to be worried about, but if you are loosing a lot more that normal and it seems excessive, it is time to listen to your hair and investigate why this could be happening.

At this point, we should differentiate between temporary and permanent hair loss.

Permanent hair loss is usually brought about by your genes and there is not much more you can do about it without a hair transplant. However this can also be brought about by a medical condition in some extreme cases.

Temporary hair loss is brought about by a combination of reasons – some cannot be stopped and others can be controlled

The main reasons we experience hair loss are

  1. Genes : This is by far the most common reason you may experience hair loss. If your inherit genes that lead to hair loss. There is no natural way to treat this. Look around at your parents, grandparents and extended family. If they all have full hair into old age, you can eliminate this as a reason for your hair loss.
  2. Hormonal changes – This is more common in women who see huge hair growth in pregnancy, potential thinning as the menopause hits etc, with hormone replacement therapy, you may see your hair coming back to “natural”.
  3. Medical conditions such as an illness, cancer, iron deficiency
  4. Lifestyle – stress, weight loss
  5. Ageing

Prevention is normally better than cure.

If you have the baldness gene, there are some natural remedies that may make your hair stronger and healthier to slow your hair loss slightly—but they won’t prevent you from going bald.

  • Diet – Balanced diet with many green vegetables and LOTS of water
  • Scalp Massages – Keep your scalp clean and invigorate your follicles when shampooing your hair.
  • Iron supplements – Iron is so important.
