FOOD FOR YOUR SKIN

Many of us love nothing more than to feel the summer sunshine on our skin. Everyone should know the importance of protecting our skin from over exposure to the sun but sometimes we get carried away or caught out.

After Sun Recipe for Over Exposure

While vegetable oils have many valuable properties to nourish the skin they are best avoided following sun burn. Like any vegetable oil they will absorb the heat of the skin and may worsen the issue.

Having read a good deal about the formulations of hand sanitisers (I do wonder if commercial sanitisers all go under rigorous testing) there would appear to be a general consensus that alcohol based sanitisers are the most effective with a minimum concentration of 60% alcohol (ethanol / isopropyl).

The research gets a bit tricky here with some suggesting that more than this is better and above a certain amount is less effective.

Ethanol and other alcohol formulations are available in different strengths, to assist with the maths so your final formula has over 60% proof alcohol see this:

Lavender essential oil is well known for it’s ability to reduce and cool most kinds of burns.

Atlantic Aromatics certified Organic Lavender oil is of a supreme quality from a French Family farm established in 1916.

Aloe Vera gel is also well known for it’s soothing properties and to help reduce the heat from burns.

I regularly use Aloe Vera gel as a carrier for essential oils especially if you are not keen on oily applications.

Qualities of Aloe Vera gel vary greatly, purchase the best quality you can find.

  • 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera dilute
  • 4 drops of pure Lavender essential oil and mix well.

Store this in the fridge for an added cooling effect. This will keep for 2 weeks.

Lavender water / hydrolat will also provide a cooling effect on skin that has had too much sun. Store in the fridge and spritz onto the affected area for soothing relief. Certified organic and from the same French Family Farm as our Lavender essential oil.

Food for your Skin After Sun

Regular exposure to summer sunshine can leave our skin dehydrated. Applying the following recipe as a nourishing and moisturising treatment.

  • 2 tablespoons of Aloe Vera Gel
  • 5ml of Rosehip Seed Oil
  • 5ml of Calendula Oil
  • 2 drops of Sandalwood
  • 2 drops of Frankincense
