Various symptoms of a magnesium deficit

The body needs enough magnesium at all times, never has a magnesium shortfall! Relaxation is one of magnesium’s key characteristics. Magnesium ensures that muscles relax, whereas calcium ensures that muscles contract. For instance, cramps are a symptom of severe magnesium shortage. But magnesium can also aid in reducing tension so that you can sleep better. Therefore, magnesium has a very wide range of effects.

Food doesn’t have enough magnesium in it.

On the other hand, is a constant threat and a factor in the emergence of a wide range of complaints and conditions, including osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes. This is also connected to depression and fatigue.

We must obtain magnesium from “outside” the body, just like we must obtain oxygen and water. This is heavily influenced by our nutrition. Green vegetables, dark chocolate, almonds, and cereals all contain magnesium. Unfortunately, there is less and less magnesium in these goods. This is due to the soil’s depletion, which prevents plants from absorbing enough minerals from the soil. This has caused roughly 70% (!) of the world’s population.

The recommended daily amount

What dosage of magnesium does the body require? The RDA (Recommended daily amount) for magnesium is between 350 and 400 mg per day. We believe that Dr. Marianne Mousain-recommendation Bosc’s of 6 mg of magnesium per kg of body weight is a superior one. We advise adding half of the RDA because most people obtain half of their daily needs from diet. Please take note that because every person is different, their demand for magnesium is highly individual. To assess your daily demands, keep paying attention to your own body! As was already indicated, a lack of magnesium can result in a number of symptoms. Many people don’t consume enough food each day, which causes their bodies to go out of balance. Magnesium insufficiency may gradually worsen.

Magnesium deficiency symptoms and/or causes

Sore muscles

Magnesium plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of sore muscles. It is a natural aid for relaxation and keeps your muscles flexible. It prevents muscle pain with regular use.

Muscle cramps

Cramps may be caused by a magnesium deficiency, among other things. If this is the case, the muscles are unable to absorb enough magnesium. Extra magnesium can help prevent and treat cramps.

Lethargy or fatigue

A magnesium deficiency can cause listlessness or fatigue complaints. Besides exercise and relaxation, magnesium  is indispensable for the production of energy.

Depression

Depression can be the result of too little magnesium. Taking extra magnesium can therefore help reduce depression.

Headache or migraine

A magnesium deficiency can cause various types of headaches. Extra magnesium can therefore help  to reduce these complaints.

Insomnia

Magnesium is a relaxation mineral and is closely involved in the production of the wake and sleep hormone melatonin. Replenishing the magnesium balance  by having a foot bath or with magnesium oil is a natural aid to sleep well.

Cardiac arrhythmias

Research has shown that people with sufficient magnesium are less likely to develop cardiovascular disease.  Sufficient magnesium is vital for our hearts.

ADHD and poor concentration

Extra magnesium contributes to more relaxation, more concentration, a better memory and  serves as a natural support in the treatment of hyperactivity and poor concentration.

Stress

A magnesium deficiency leads to stress and stress is a magnesium thief, resulting in even more stress. Extra magnesium can therefore help  to reduce these complaints. Read how that works in the article about stress and magnesium

Skin conditions, itching an dandruff

Magnesium is a natural supporter in the maintenance and restoration of normal skin function. A deficiency can therefore cause irritating skin problems.

Medication use

Many medicines are magnesium thieves and that can bring annoying complications. Extra magnesium, absorbed through the skin,  can lessen these side effects significantly.

Regular exercise

Athletes sweat and thereby lose all kinds of minerals including magnesium. Athletes in particular need extra magnesium, among other things for the production of ATP, the substance that is responsible for the energy transport in our body.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, the magnesium requirement is 20 to 40% higher than normal! Extra magnesium contributes to more relaxation, more concentration, a better memory.

Menopause

Many hormone experts recommend Zechsal magnesium to their clients. It is natural, relaxes and relieves and is often the missing link in the management of menopausal complaints.

Will additional magnesium be beneficial to me?

Simply giving it a try is the best way to find out. While some people see results right away, others might not see results for some time. Persistence is key, especially in cases of chronic problems. You should have a better understanding of how magnesium affects your body after three weeks!

Which magnesium is suitable for me?

More and more people are convinced that they need extra magnesium. But which magnesium is the most suitable?

Zechsal works with three types of magnesium – chloride, citrate and bisglycinate – all three of which deserve the label “good to excellent” in terms of absorption and availability for the body. We know from the literature that there are differences in the functioning and effectiveness of these types for certain complaints.

Before you make a choice – for one of the types or a combination – here’s a few tips to take into account when restoring your magnesium balance:

  • The amount required is personal and depends on many factors. You can – within wide margins – try out how much of which type suits you when.
  • Your daily needs may vary. For example, a lot of exercise, stress or use of medication results in a higher magnesium requirement.
  • Magnesium is the conductor in your body and determines how well other vitamins and minerals are absorbed or used.
  • When in doubt, always consult your doctor or therapist.
  • Several connections next to each other: great!
  • Possibly too much magnesium leaves the body naturally through the kidneys or through perspiration.
